Ultrasonic/Infrared Sensors

In addition to the SICK-laserscanner Phoenix is equipped with 12 ultrasonic and 16 infrared sensors to ensure a 360° obstacle detection at close range.

These additional sensors are controlled by a specially designed microcontroller hardware which communicates with the robot's host computers via serial interface.
